APPG Drop In Event: Service Leavers' Skills and Employment

Updated: Dec 23, 2025

This week we the Armed Forces Community APPG hosted its first drop-in event in Parliament on transition from service to civilian life and the skills that service leavers can bring to the civilian workforce. The drop-in was an opportunity for MPs to come and learn how to help constituents who are managing the transition.

The drop-in launched a report by Reed in Partnership, "Skills in Transition: How UK Service leavers can power the nation's economic future", which offers practical insights into how employers can better recognise and harness military-acquired skills.

Calvin Bailey MP said: “Having served in the RAF for over 24 years and now serving as an MP, I know how well military service can prepare you with crucial skills and experiences that can transfer to other walks of life.  “This new research from Reed in Partnership is valuable, showing how Service leavers can keep contributing to society once we've left uniform. Employers and the Government must ensure we take advantage of these opportunities.”

We would like to extend our thanks to all those who attended the event today including several Members of Parliament, Reed’s Career Transition Partnership team, Lightcast, Forces Employment Charity, Royal British Legion and Centrica.
