Great to shout out some of our small hospitality businesses in Parliament - Noted Eel & Pie House in Leyton, Homies On Donkeys in the ’Stone, Bare Brew and City Place in Wanstead, and Fresh as a Daisy in South Woodford.

Too many young people want to work - but the system is failing them. We’ve just seen the Milburn review on youth unemployment, and it confirms what I hear from our young people locally. Entry-level jobs are disappearing, apprenticeships for under‑25s are down, and 3,000 young people in Leyton & Wanstead are NEET but keen to work or train.

Pride month should be a time for celebration and joy. Sadly, that isn’t what I’ve heard from LGBT+ constituents and allies since the Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance was published this week.

This week we’ve seen positive steps towards prostate cancer screening through a £20m package, including funding to enable all eligible Black men to be invited to the TRANSFORM trial alongside updated GP advice, and funding for less invasive treatments. This is real leadership from our Labour Government, helping to make up for a disappointing decision from the National Screening Committee.

Good to speak with constituents in Wanstead yesterday alongside Cllr Jo Blackman! I wanted to stress Labour’s commitment to energy independence, accelerating wind, hydrogen, and nuclear power, so ordinary people don’t have to continue to bear the cost of the climate crisis, energy shocks, and Russian aggression.

Today the Government has responded to the National Screening Committee recommendation, bringing forward a welcome package of new measures to increase access to early diagnosis for Black men and to build evidence towards wider prostate cancer screening.

Thanks to everyone who got in touch with me recently about postal delays across the constituency. I visited the Leytonstone Delivery Office to discuss the issues directly with Royal Mail management. I was assured that operations are improving and that the remaining problem areas are being actively addressed. In recent weeks we have all witnessed deeply worrying developments: continued bombardment of Lebanon, accelerating settlement expansion in the West Bank, and sanctioned Israeli minister Ben-Gvir parading his cruelty through the appalling treatment of those on the Global Sumud Flotilla.

I took them on a tour, and they spent the day learning about the role of MPs, the work my team does, and took part in some lively debates - including on whether social media does more harm than good.

As Chair of the APPG for the Armed Forces Community, I’ve submitted the APPG’s response to the Government’s SEND consultation following engagement with Service families, charities, researchers and the Armed Forces Families Federations.

Today, we saw a horrific shooting at a mosque in California. This weekend, we saw far-right protesters march on London, spreading Islamophobia and antisemitism and abusing police officers. Hate like this must be confronted. We stand together and oppose this evil bigotry wherever we see it.

Last week, I visited Leyton and Wanstead Synagogue in Leytonstone to offer my support to our local Jewish community in light of the attacks on synagogues across London. This week has sadly shown again why we must continue to speak out against the evil bigotry of antisemitism wherever it arises.
