Ahead of the Budget, I wrote to the Chancellor to raise concerns about how the benefits system is structured for young people in supported accommodation.

It was an honour to attend the Veterans’ Reception at No.10 this week with Peter, a constituent and proud veteran - who I first met through a casework surgery! As someone who served in the RAF for over 24 years, it was a privilege to stand alongside fellow veterans who’ve given so much to our country and who continue to serve our communities in so many ways today.

Yesterday in Parliament, I spoke about how we can do more to help young people get into education, work, or training locally. I asked the Minister what’s being done to make sure opportunities, like those from new technical colleges and V Levels, are genuinely open to everyone.

The housing crisis is a blight on East London. It stops our young people from gaining independence and starting a family. It eats away at life chances and opportunities through unaffordable rents. It causes rocketing homelessness that is pushing our councils towards bankruptcy.

Last Thursday, I joined more than 25 residents of the Exchange Estate for a meeting with FirstPort property management, following our initial discussion in Parliament and a private follow-up with FirstPort staff. Residents brought a clear set of urgent concerns and made it unmistakably clear that service standards must improve. I will continue to hold FirstPort accountable to ensure they follow through on the commitments made during the meeting.

Last Friday I held a SEND coffee morning for parents and carers in Leyton and Wanstead. It was a really valuable chance to hear directly about the challenges families face, and the changes they’d like to see. It is completely unacceptable that residents in the new Salix House development are living with noise, broken lifts, and antisocial behaviour, while also being charged for repairs that are not their fault.

A huge thank you to Space 4 All and the fantastic local organisations I met at Pastures Youth Centre, all provide amazing safe spaces and positive activities for young people right across our area. From cooking and creative sessions to study support, these groups are making a huge difference for 8-18 year olds.

Today, I was proud to join the Redbridge Mayor and our neighbouring MP Wes Streeting, at Redbridge Town Hall for the Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony. It was a special moment to come together with local representatives from the Royal British Legion and the 241 Wanstead & Woodford Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets to honour the dedication and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. This week in Parliament, I also recognised local Air Cadets - 12F Walthamstow & Leyton Squadron.

I had the privilege of joining Whizz Kidz in Parliament for the launch of their groundbreaking report, "Making the Grade." This important report highlights the ongoing barriers that young wheelchair users face in our education system. A big thank you to my good friend Daniel Francis MP for sponsoring this event!

Great to support a very successful event at the Coach and Horses, Leyton organised by Leyton Orientear magazine, who brought us together to raise awareness and money in our fight against prostate cancer. I was very pleased to win the raffle and stick the prize money behind the bar for those who joined us!
