Today, I was proud to join the Redbridge Mayor and our neighbouring MP Wes Streeting, at Redbridge Town Hall for the Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony.
It was a special moment to come together with local representatives from the Royal British Legion and the 241 Wanstead & Woodford Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets to honour the dedication and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. This week in Parliament, I also recognised local Air Cadets - 12F Walthamstow & Leyton Squadron.
These units are full of wonderful young people, brimming with talent and optimism. They could not run without the incredible hard work of their Civilian Committees and Volunteer Reserve Training staff, who enable them.
I became an Air Cadet when I was 12. As a restless kid, the Air Cadets gave me discipline, a sense of purpose, values and a community. Most importantly, it gave me something bigger than myself to be a part of and a sense of hope.
So, this Armed Forces Day, I want to pay tribute to all the volunteers, reservists, and families who selflessly give their time to support the next generation to keep our country safe. Your dedication not only strengthens our national security but also inspires our young people to understand the true meaning of service and community.
