Tackling Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour in Leyton and Wanstead

Many in Leyton and Wanstead are impacted by anti-social behaviour, drug-crime, and shoplifting. Residents are tired of feeling unsafe due to drug-injecting, vandalism, and abuse while local businesses like the Co-op in South Woodford have been targeted by violent shoplifting. Transport workers are also facing violence and fare-dodging, as raised by the TSSA - Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association.

Labour’s Crime & Policing Bill is taking important steps:

  •  Tackling Cuckooing: We're addressing the exploitation of homes in areas like Leytonstone, where drug gangs take over vulnerable residents' properties for criminal activities.

  •  Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Programmes: These will help reduce public drinking issues on streets like Jubilee Road.

  •  Respect Orders: We're introducing measures to hold persistent anti-social behaviour offenders accountable.

  •  Ending Shoplifting Loopholes: No more immunity for shoplifters stealing goods under £200, protecting our local shops from financial loss.

We must ensure our children don’t grow up feeling like violence and crime are normal on our streets.
