Last week, as Chair of the Armed Forces Community APPG, I was pleased to host a meeting on social care and the Veteran Friendly Framework for care homes.
With over 26,000 veterans living in care homes across England and Wales, it’s essential that social care services recognise military service and understand the unique experiences many veterans and their families bring with them.
We heard compelling evidence that the Veteran Friendly Framework is improving identification, wellbeing and quality of care for veterans, while giving staff the tools they need to provide person-centred support.
As the Armed Forces Covenant Duty is extended to include social care, the Framework offers a strong example of how care homes can give due regard to the Armed Forces community in practice.
Thank you to all our speakers, partners and colleagues who contributed to such a constructive discussion.
