Last week, I convened a meeting in Parliament to push forward the cross-Channel rail agenda and highlight the central role that our local Temple Mills rail depot plays. We were joined by five train companies, alongside London St Pancras Highspeed, Eurotunnel, and government officials.
Leyton’s Temple Mills provides over 450 skilled jobs locally, a number that could increase by several hundred if full expansion is secured at the existing site or nearby.
I’ve followed this up by submitting a letter setting out my conclusions to the Office for Road and Rail, who will soon announce their decision on which rail firms will get access to Leyton Temple Mills over the coming years.
This is only the first outcome from months of engagement with these stakeholders, and the journey is far from finished. I will continue to engage with train operators, local stakeholders, and the government to ensure this agenda moves forward quickly and delivers maximum benefits both nationally and for our area.
