On Monday I had the privilege of welcoming Dame Diana Johnson, Minister for Policing, to Leyton. Our community is facing significant challenges with anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug-related crime.
In October 2023, Waltham Forest reported the highest level of ASB in London, with 891 incidents. Residents report feeling unsafe and feel the issue is out of control in some areas. During the visit, we discussed these pressing issues directly with local business owners.
I'm committed to putting a spotlight on the high rates of ASB in Leyton and Wanstead. During the visit, I emphasised the need for more community support officers and fewer abstractions of local police for events in central London. Our police force is doing their best under challenging circumstances, but resources remain stretched.
The government is committed to increasing neighbourhood policing with plans for 13,000 additional officers, including PCSOs dedicated to specific areas. This will enhance our community's safety and responsiveness to ASB issues.
As your MP I will continue advocating for our community's needs and ensuring your voices are heard at the highest levels.
