Proud to sponsor Prostate Cancer Research reception in Parliament last week – although sadly I couldn’t be there in person due to Select Committee duties abroad.
Our event brought together high-profile guests like Nigella Lawson and Michael McIntyre to hear powerful speeches from a veteran living with incurable prostate cancer, standing alongside former PM Rishi Sunak MP and my friend Deputy PM David Lammy MP, who has two older brothers living with this disease.
Around 100 MP colleagues joined during the afternoon. This gives me real hope that this campaign for earlier diagnosis and life-saving treatment for those who need it will continue to gain momentum, particularly given the support we’ve received from Health Secretary Wes Streeting MP as well.
The decision about screening is in the hands of the independent National Screening Committee, and I’m hoping for progress next month. But whatever they decide, we will keep highlighting the evidence and keep campaigning for more effective diagnosis, treatment & care. So that more men and their families don’t have to receive the devastating news of an incurable, life-limiting prostate cancer.
Check out the new report examining how an innovative & practical targeted screening programme could save lives by helping the men at highest risk get an early diagnosis. https://www.prostate-cancer-research.org.uk/screening-report/
