This week I have been in Gabon, one of the most climate critical and nature-rich countries in the world, representing the UK as our Trade Envoy to Southern Africa. The engagement I had was so valuable, highlighting the huge opportunities for progress on shared objectives that centre on green economic growth.
In addition to extensive discussions with President Nguema, I met with Vice Presidents Chambrier and Immongault, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mines, Digital Economy and Culture, and the green economy agency AGADEV.
I was also the first international visitor to Gabon’s Belinga iron mine, which is a massive opportunity for growth being developed through a UK-based joint venture. This is just one of many projects in Gabon where UK expertise and financing can make nature-friendly green development possible.
We’ve made real progress through the high-level engagement.
