Working Together to Address Crime and ASB Around Leytonstone Tube Station

Last week I helped organise a meeting with TfL, the British Transport Police, the Met and Waltham Forest Council at Leytonstone Tube station, to tackle the ongoing problems of aggressive begging, drug dealing and drug taking in and around the station.
It comes as new Respect Orders came into force this week, giving police, councils, housing providers and transport networks stronger powers to deal with persistent anti-social behaviour - including banning individuals from certain areas or activities, and requiring them into treatment where that can help change their behaviour. Breaching an order is now a criminal offence.
I know from speaking to constituents just how much this kind of behaviour affects people’s quality of life around our high street and transport links. This is hugely welcome, and I’ll keep working with TfL, the police and the council to make sure these powers are used effectively and constituents see real change around Leytonstone station.
