I am honoured to have been appointed Minister for Veterans and People at the Ministry of Defence.
I am honoured to have been appointed Minister for Veterans and People at the Ministry of Defence, and ultimately to become your Member of Parliament. I have never forgotten that opportunity, and I am completely committed to serving those who have given so much to our country and our community.
This is a serious and testing moment. My time on the Defence Committee has given me a clear understanding of the challenges we face and the urgency of meeting them. But this is also a bittersweet moment, as my role as a Minister will change how I engage in Parliament. I am now bound by the principle of collective responsibility, and this will affect how I can speak publicly, except on matters related to my ministerial brief, including service people, veterans, armed forces families, reserves, and cadets.
I will continue to serve our constituency and remain fully engaged on local issues. I will continue to represent you on wider policy interests, and I can have a greater influence in doing so within the Government, but this advocacy will now have to take place behind the scenes. Please continue to write to me with your concerns and cares. My team and I are here to support you. 👇
